Instead of moving side to side burnishers operate in a straight line going back and forth. Using a floor burnisher you can give your wood floor a high gloss shine restoring the wet look that usually results only from a newly laid finish. Burnishing the floor is a way to refresh your floor s finish without going through the entire refinishing process. Remove any stuck on material such as gum tar or stickers from the floor with a putty knife. Pay special attention to the edges and corners where stripper residue will collect and contaminate the floor sealer or sealer finish.

Once you ve started the machine slowly lower the head pad assembly onto the floor. And with high amounts of traffic your flooring is prone to dirt. Because burnishing abrasively removes the film you run the risk of prematurely damaging or wearing out floor tile without applying an adequate number of coats of finish. Burnishing floor finish is helpful for two reasons.

Dry mop the vct to remove any dust or debris from the floor. Spray buffing and burnishing will both polish a floor but use differe. Floor burnishing is done with a rotary machine that has a pad turning speed of more than 1000 rpm but more commonly done at 1500 to 2000 rpm. Besides being heavier the engines in burnishers are more complex to produce higher speeds.

Always start the burnisher in a leaned back position so the pad is not touching the floor. Without proper maintenance hard surface floors tend to lose their quality and sheen. Step 1 sweeping up any loose dirt or debris from the floor with a broom.
